Tracking
Calls, forms and sales recorded as conversions before new spend goes out.
A performance marketing consultant plans, runs and answers for your paid media: Google Ads, Meta Ads and the tracking and landing pages behind them, measured on leads, sales and cost per customer rather than clicks and reach. I have managed more than $40M in ad spend over twelve years, at agencies, in-house at Basiq and as a consultant to founder-led businesses across Australia.
Ad spend managed
Google Ads leads for one electrician
Meta franchise leads at A$11.71
Ticket revenue from paid social
Four accounts, four channels and sectors, all measured on the number the owner cares about.
Performance marketing is advertising you pay for and judge on an outcome: a lead, a sale, a booked job, a ticket. The consultant is the person who decides where the money goes, builds the campaigns, makes sure every result is tracked back to the ad that produced it, and moves the budget towards whatever is returning the most.
In practice that is four jobs. Tracking, so the platforms learn from real customers. Campaigns and audiences on the channels where your buyers are. Creative and landing pages that give people a reason to act. And reporting that talks about cost per lead, cost per customer and revenue, so you can treat the ad budget as a dial rather than a cost.
You will also see the role called a performance marketing specialist, paid media consultant or paid social specialist. The labels change; the job does not.
Google Ads for people already searching for what you sell. Meta Ads on Facebook and Instagram for people who are not looking yet but will buy when they see the right thing. TikTok and LinkedIn where the audience is genuinely there, as it was for Little Ravers on TikTok.
Most businesses I work with run Google and Meta together. Search catches demand that already exists; Meta creates it, then retargets it. When the goal is enquiries for a service business, the two sit inside a wider lead generation system with landing pages, call tracking and a CRM pipeline.
All four can work. The difference is who does the thinking, who does the work and who answers for the number.
| Who runs it | How it is paid | Best when | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Performance marketing consultant | One senior person, plan and execution | Flat monthly fee | You want senior judgement and hands on the account |
| Freelancer | One person, usually execution | Hourly or per task | The strategy is set and you need hours |
| Agency | An account manager and a team | Fee, often tied to spend | You need volume across many channels |
| In-house hire | An employee | Salary, super, tools | There is enough work for a full-time role |
My fee is a flat monthly retainer, from $1,500 a month, not a percentage of your ad spend. The ad budget is separate and is paid straight to the platform, so the fee does not climb when the budget does.
Ad budgets vary with the market. Fused Electrical Co runs on about $2,800 a month in Google Ads. Little Builders ran each franchise city on A$20 to A$30 a day. On the first call I will tell you what a sensible test budget looks like for your market, and what result would justify spending more.
Month one is a paid trial. If the plan and the first changes are not live within 30 days, you can walk away and I refund the retainer.
Tracking comes before any new spend. Every call, form and sale is recorded as a conversion, and where there is a sales process the leads land in a CRM so we can see which ads produced revenue, not just enquiries. At Arbor Building that is a thirteen-stage HubSpot pipeline with a weighted value on every deal.
You get a weekly view of cost per lead and a monthly report on revenue, pipeline and what we are testing next.
Everything between the ad budget and the revenue it produces.

Cost per lead, cost per customer and revenue, in plain English.
Two weeks in your ad accounts, tracking and sales data.
Every conversion recorded properly before anything scales.
Campaigns, creative and landing pages for the first channel.
Weekly changes, a monthly report, and the budget follows results.
Fractional CMO and Head of Growth are the job titles. Copilot and Captain are how the role runs day to day. You get a senior marketing leader either way. The only question is who's driving.

From $1,500 a month. One retainer, either seat, a fraction of what a full-time CMO costs. The exact number depends on scope, and you get it on the first call.
Both seats, first 30 days. Audit, plan, and the first quick wins shipped.
Month one is a paid trial. If the plan and the first changes are not live within 30 days, walk away and I refund the retainer.

Yes. Performance marketing specialist, paid media consultant and paid social specialist all describe the same work. What matters is whether the person is measured on leads and revenue.
Paid media is any advertising you pay for. Performance marketing is paid media that is measured and optimised on a business outcome, such as cost per lead or return on ad spend, rather than reach.
I charge a flat monthly retainer from $1,500, not a percentage of ad spend. The ad budget is separate and is paid straight to Google or Meta. You get the exact fee on the first call.
Enough to get a clear read within a few weeks. Fused Electrical Co runs on about $2,800 a month in Google Ads; Little Builders tested each city on A$20 to A$30 a day. I will suggest a test budget for your market on the first call.
Search can produce enquiries within days of launch. Paid lead engines usually settle inside 60 to 90 days, once the platforms have enough conversion data to learn from.
Google Ads and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) day to day, plus TikTok and LinkedIn when the audience is there.
Yes. In the Copilot seat your team or agency keeps executing and I review the work, set the plan and hold the numbers.
No. I am based in Sydney and work with businesses across Australia and New Zealand, and I have run launches in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.
Tell me what you sell, roughly where revenue sits, and what's stuck. I'll reply within a business day with an honest view on whether I can help and what I'd do first.
